                                    Maths News in St. Joseph’s

As part of the Government’s Literacy and Numeracy Strategy to improve school achievement in English and Mathematics, all teachers in St. Joseph’s have been engaged in a process called School Self Evaluation (SSE) in order to draw up a school improvement plan in both curricular areas.

The School Improvement Plan (SIP) for Mathematics is being implemented from this September over the next 3 years.  The main focus of the plan is on developing a Problem-Solving Approach to the learning of Mathematics.   This shift in thinking about Mathematics makes it more practical and relevant to children’s everyday lives and not just confined to a subject they learn in school!

Specific areas which will be targeted for improvement such as:

(RUCSAC- Read, Underline/Understand, Choose, Select/Solve, Answer and Check).

If you have any questions regarding any aspect of the plan you are most welcome to discuss it with your child’s class teacher. We look forward to working with you for the benefit of all the boys and girls in our care.
